Brazilian vs Bikini Waxing: Booking Your First Appointment

If you’re into feeling fabulous and you’re curious about bikini vs. Brazilian waxing, we’ve got you covered! We’re here with the details and the techniques to help you look and feel your best. If you’re hoping to establish a regular skincare routine or you’re heading to a tropical paradise and want to try something other than shaving, we’ve got the frequently asked questions and all the answers to follow.

What is a bikini wax?

Bikini waxes have been around for several hundred years, with the earliest waxes being made from sugar and lemon. They were popularized and became a household name in the 70s when thong bathing suits hit the sands of Brazil. Bikini line waxes include the hair, well, all around your bikini line! At 1845 Esthetics, we remove 4 finger widths outside, and 2 widths inside the bikini line-creating a clean and natural shape.

Bikini full wax

While the name is a bit deceiving, people seek the popular bikini full wax for good reason. Instead of a full Brazilian wax, a bikini full frontal wax includes removing hair from your pubic area and labia. However, with this particular waxing service, the hair in the inner buttocks remains intact—which is perfect for those who aren’t worried about it.

What’s a Brazilian wax?

If you’ve never had a Brazilian wax, you probably have a general idea about the style from pop culture, magazines and social media. A Brazilian wax includes removal of all of your pubic hair; from your pubic bone, the vulva and any remaining hairs inside the inner buttocks. It’s the ideal waxing style for those who love to feel totally smooth and silky. You can go completely bare, or some choose to leave a triangle or landing strip.

Frequently asked questions about intimate waxing

A Brazilian can sound intimidating, and we get it, especially if it’s your first time going to get waxed! But between your esthetician’s expertise and the application of hard wax (which is best for sensitive skin), you’ll be in and out with minimal discomfort. Let’s break down some of the most frequently asked questions about waxing to have you feeling reassured and confident.

How can you decide which waxing style is right for you?

Determining which waxing style is best for you depends entirely on your personal preferences. For some, the bikini full frontal works perfectly for them. For others, they prefer the feeling of being totally hair free. And all of those preferences are valid! Some might opt for a v shape, some, a landing strip. That’s the best part about waxing—everyone is so different, and there’s no one way to do it best.

How painful is the process of waxing?

Waxing has always been perceived as a painful treatment, but it’s actually a very tolerable experience. You will feel a little discomfort, but it’ll be over before you know it, and it's so worth it! To unlock the potential of your soft, freshly exfoliated skin is to know absolute comfort. It becomes less and less painful with each consistent appointment- as long as you do not shave in between. Shaving even just once will make the hair grow back more coarse, and it’ll be like getting your first Brazilian all over again.

How often should you book waxing appointments?

One of the many perks of waxing is that you get to enjoy smooth, silky skin for far longer than you would after shaving. You can schedule your wax appointments up to four to six weeks apart, depending on the area being waxed, and how fast your body hair grows. With bikini and Brazilian waxing, it’s best to schedule every four to five weeks to avoid ingrown and interrupted hair growth cycles. It should also be noted that before a big event or vacation, we recommend you book three waxing appointments before said event or vacation. This is so that pesky baby hairs are rid of and not something to worry about.

What should you do to prepare for a waxing appointment?

Preparing for your waxing appointment couldn’t be easier. You’ll want to make sure you grow your body hair out to at least a quarter of an inch long before you schedule your appointment. Our rule of thumb is the length of two grains of rice. If it’s any shorter, you run the risk of hairs breaking and failing to be pulled at all. Exfoliating about 48 hours prior to your treatment will help to knock ingrown hairs loose and clear away dead skin cells.

Make sure to wear loose fitting clothing when you go to your appointment to allow your skin to breathe after your session. Friction and sweat will work against your skin, creating irritation and inflammation—so sweats and flowy clothes are best!

What does proper aftercare for waxing include?

Post wax aftercare is often overlooked, but when followed, your skin will thank you. Keep the area clean and clear, avoiding body sprays, powders or perfumes to prevent ingrown hairs, irritation and redness. Skip the gym, the sauna and the tanning bed for at least a few days after your wax appointment. And if you’re planning on a poolside barbecue soon, make sure it's at least 48 hours after your appointment.
